Let’s take a look at everything we know so far about the 2024 Lexus GX, including towing capacity and off-road ability to see what this luxury SUV includes.
The midsize Lexus GX is being fully redesigned for the 2024 model year. Its exterior style now strongly resembles the Land Cruiser and will feature an updated powertrain and a long list of more modern features.
Overview and What’s New
The first thing to notice about the new Lexus GX is its boxy exterior styling that resembles older Land Cruiser models. It has a timeless appearance that should age well, which is good since the GX tends to have long generation cycles before updates. It will use the same body-on-frame platform that the current Toyota Tundra and Toyota Sequoia use. A twin-turbo V6 engine will be the sole powerplant, offered with or without hybrid assist.
The new Lexus GX will slot between the flagship LX model and the TX. The latter SUV is similar in size to the GX but is less focused on off-road ability. As one of Lexus’s oldest brands, the GX has a solid reputation with the off-road demographic, so it’s no surprise that the 2024 model will come with plenty of all-terrain upgrades and hardware.
Lexus GX Trims and Pricing
The 2024 Lexus GX starts at $64,250 and goes up from there over a total of six trims. The top Luxury+ trim starts at $81,250. If you want to keep it under $70,000, the Overtrail trim is the first one with increased off-road ability. However, if you want more luxurious features on the interior, you’ll want to consider the Luxury trim or the Overtrail+ trim, which both start at $77,250.
The Overtrail+ trim differs from the Luxury trim in that it removes the third row of seats and doesn’t include all of the luxury features of the latter trim. The Luxury trim comes with 22-inch wheels, 10-way adjustable front seats, second-row window shades, and semi-aniline leather upholstery.
Lexus GX Power and Performance
The standard engine across GX trims will be the twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 that makes 349 horsepower. A 10-speed automatic transmission sends power to the wheels and all models come with 4WD. The Overtrail and Overtrail+ trims come with additional off-road features and hardware compared to the regular trims. This includes 18-inch wheels with 33-inch all-terrain tires, adaptive suspension, skid plates, and crawl control with a terrain selector.
The maximum towing capacity for the 2024 Lexus GX is 8,000 pounds with the Premium, Premium+, Overtrail, and Overtrail+ trims. The Luxury trim can tow up to 6,990 pounds and the Luxury+ trim can tow up to 6,780 pounds. The towing capacity for the upcoming hybrid powertrain hasn’t been revealed yet.
You can expect up to 21 MPG on the highway for the new Lexus GX nonhybrid. This is only a slight improvement over the 19 MPG highway mileage for the 2023 model. It goes without saying that the interior of the Lexus GX is packed with luxury features and more modern tech than before.
The Lexus GX should make its debut in dealer showrooms in the early portion of 2024.
