Honda Collaborates with Pokemon For Koraidon Motorcycle

If you’re wondering what a Koraidon is, you’re not alone, but it’s a creature that appears in the wildly popular Pokemon franchise. It has a dragon-like form and has appeared in the Pokemon Scarlet game that came out in 2022. Pokemon collaborations aren’t new, and neither are Pokemon motorcycles.

The Koraidon Bike is Ready For Pokemon Day

Honda’s concept motorcycle is similar to when the Toyota Engineering Society created a Toyota Miraidon motorcycle based on a Pokemon character from Pokemon Violet. Honda’s concept bike is just in time for this year’s Pokemon Day and features the Koraidon character transformed into a bike shape.

Unsurprisingly, the bike looks pretty crazy, with wheel-like limbs and a touted Sprinting Build that allows it to walk on four legs and stand on two wheels. It may sound absurd, but Honda Riding Assist uses robot technology with self-balancing technology. HRA debuted at CES 2017 and will likely make this innovative design a reality.

The Honda Koraidon concept doesn’t stop with animated limb action. Depending on the speed of the bike, it will also feature movement in the hands, neck, and face. It is planned to reproduce eye movement and eyelids as well.

LIfe-Size Pokemon Replica

The Koraidon concept is surprisingly unique. It’s not just something like a Honda Civic with a Pokemon aesthetic, but an actual Pokemon character in the form of a bike. The bike even stands at the same height and weighs the same as the Pokemon character. The smallest details have been recreated not just to make a bike, but an animated character.

Around 40 engineers were chosen from the Innovative Research Excellence and Motorcycle and Power Products to work on the project. This team used various simulation technologies made by Honda over the years. Honda’s creative design philosophy behind this bike is based on the tagline “Honda’s Devotion Makes Children’s Dreams Come True.”

While it’s unlikely that the Pokemon motorcycle will ever see action in the US, it will be on display for fans in Japan at the Honda Welcome Plaza Aoyama in Tokyo. The bike can be seen between March 7 and 9.

How Honda Riding Assist Makes It Happen

Honda Riding Assist was developed to make motorcycle riding more accessible. It was featured at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show on the Honda Riding Assist-e, which was an EV bike with a low seat height and low center of gravity. The self-balancing technology balances the bike at low speeds. While the Koraidon concept may take it to another level, the original purpose of the technology was to provide intelligent stabilizing for beginning motorcycle riders.

The bike premiered at the Tokyo Motor Show and featured an instrument panel with various modes and degrees of lean. As a learner bike, one thing that made this one stand out was that it didn’t expressly look like a learner bike. In fact, it featured a sleek, futuristic design that would likely appeal to all levels of enthusiasts.

Whether it’s an EV motorcycle or a life-size replica of a famous Pokemon character, you can always bet that it’s something special when Honda is involved.
