The Door is Closing For You To Get a Ford Edge

The Ford Edge is a mid-size SUV with two spacious rows and tons of cargo space. Families love this SUV for its comfortable ride, host of standard tech features, and attractive starting price. The two available turbo engines don’t hurt this vehicle’s popularity, either.

If the Ford Edge is starting to catch your eye, you may have to act fast. All of the rumors have been confirmed, and the Ford Edge will, sadly, be discontinued after the 2023 model year.

It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye

Don’t be mistaken. The Ford Edge isn’t being removed from production due to a lack of sales or ability. Ford is currently making some tough decisions about how it will allocate resources in its quest to develop and produce new eco-friendly electric vehicles.

The Ford Oakville Assembly Plant was the subject of some tough conversations and negotiations over the last couple of years. This is where vehicles like the Lincoln Nautilus and Ford Edge are born. The plant is going through some upgrades and changes in order to the new home to five various electric vehicles coming out in 2025.

Ford had to cut back on some models to make room for future innovations. The Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT were also the Oakville Assembly Plant products, but they were both discontinued in 2019.

The Future of The Ford Edge

There was some hope that the Ford Edge would be upgraded to a new EV platform for 2023, but those plans are no longer in the works. Ford will certainly release a replacement SUV with a new name, but only time will tell exactly what will replace the Edge.

Just because the Edge won’t be available as a new car in the future doesn’t mean Ford is on autopilot for new models. The 2022 model, for example, is now only available with all-wheel-drive and will cost roughly $2,000 more than previous models. 2022 is also the first year of the fresh Black Appearance Package and SEL Adventure Package (now called the Sport Appearance Package).

There aren’t many details about what the final version of this popular SUV will look like, but drivers can rest assured that the Edge will go out with a bang.

It’s Not Too Late

Luckily, Ford gave drivers plenty of notice that the Edge would disappear from assembly plants. If you’ve been eyeing one of these SUVs for a while, it’s time to act. Your local Ford dealer can help make sure you pick out the right model and get it into your garage right away.

Thanks to Ford’s ability to build reliable and dependable vehicles, plenty of used Ford Edge models should be available for years to come.

While it’s comforting to know that Ford will replace the Edge with something impressive, it’s hard to say goodbye to such a wonderful SUV. Go pick one out before it’s too late, and new models are simply a thing of the past.
