Ford Everest: The SUV Forbidden in America Takes Global Center Stage

Ford Everest: The SUV Forbidden in America Takes Global Center Stage

Some vehicles are simply forbidden from being sold in America. It might seem strange that the Ford Everest is among them, but it is.

The Everest shares a platform with the Ranger, and it’s part of global markets, but it doesn’t have the right restrictions to be part of the American automotive landscape. For now, that shouldn’t bother drivers too much; Ford is already reducing its SUV lineup in the US. This impressive SUV packs quite a punch on the global stage, providing drivers with impressive driving qualities and capabilities.

Let’s take a look at what the Everest brings to those markets that will see this SUV.

A more refined look on the SUV

When you see the front of the Everest, it will remind you of the Ranger. These two Fords share headlights and grilles, but the SUV has a more refined bumper than the chunky model found on the midsize truck. From there, you see more differences, starting with the Everest being an SUV instead of a truck. The rear offers a set of horizontal taillights connected by a trim piece carrying the Everest name.

Going inside, you’ll find a vertical 10.1 or 12.0-inch touchscreen in the center console and an 8.0 or 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster providing the gauge reading desired. There’s also a 360-degree camera linked to the screen, which aids in parking and traveling on tough terrain. This camera system can act like a trail cam, removing the need for a spotter along your route.

Several engines provide power to the Everest

Much of why the Ford Everest isn’t sold in the United States lies in the engines. This SUV is offered with two turbocharged diesel engines: a 3.0-liter V6 and a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder model. There’s also a gas-powered version of the Everest that uses the 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine. These engines mate to either a 6-speed or 10-speed automatic transmission, depending on the trim and engine used.

In addition to these powertrains, two 4WD systems are offered to give this SUV plenty of confidence on some of the roughest trails. Of course, the Everest is also being offered in an RWD layout to give this SUV the desired on-road driving efficiency.

The interior is impressive

When you step up to the Platinum trim, the Everest delivers the quality look and feel you want during your drive. This cabin comes with soft-touch surfaces covered in plush quilted leather. You’ll also find gray faux wood paneling inserts that give this cabin a finished appearance. When the sun goes down, the ambient lighting system brings you the look you want, and the lighting that makes you feel right at home during your time on the road. If you’re looking for a comfortable SUV to drive when visiting other countries, this Ford SUV could be perfect.

The Everest has more seating than the Ranger

Although the Ford Everest shares a platform with the Ranger, one of the biggest differences between these two vehicles is the addition of a third-row seat in the SUV. The Everest is truly a 7-seat SUV with room for a large family to enjoy the drive. If you fold the rearmost seat down, you’ll find ample cargo room for the equipment and luggage everyone needs to take along during your time on the road. This SUV can be one of the most useful you’ll find while traveling the world.

The environment is right in this Ford SUV

Set it and forget it. That’s what you can do with the climate control system in the Everest. This SUV has automatic zoned climate controls to ensure everyone is comfortable in all three rows. Passengers in the front seats enjoy the benefits of heated and ventilated seats. Those in the second row get to experience heating for the seats, which makes this SUV more comfortable. On cold days, the driver can keep their hands warm with the heated steering wheel.

The Everest drives right

You might think that an SUV sharing a platform with a pickup truck will ride like a truck, but that’s not the case. The Ford Everest is an impressive SUV with a soft and plush suspension that handles road abrasions and issues. This SUV rides on 21-inch wheels and wears tires that are made for the road. The sound-deadening tech helps absorb road noises to make sure the cabin is quiet and enjoyable wherever you go.

We don’t have the Ford Everest in the United States, but that’s perfectly ok. This SUV is made for foreign markets and offers everything a large family could need in a midsize crossover with three rows of seats.
